No Idea why I decided to start this blog talking about spark plugs except that maybe they are the life blood of your T4R and skimping on this part is just not a good idea. When I was on the hunt to do a tune up on my 2000 LTD I consulted the various groups online and found these:
NGK (3967) BKR5EKB-11 Standard Spark Plug – <—- This is actually a link to buy them on Amazon.
I figured what the heck and bought six and tried them out. Bottom line: BEST SPARK PLUGS EVER! I noticed an immediate increase in power and response from these new plugs. I know there is all this hype about dual plugs, iridium quad flux capacitor plugs and so on, these, simply work, period. If you have a 3rd Gen 4Runner, these are your plugs.
It will run you about $32.00 total and if you are smart and have Amazon Prime, you’ll enjoy fast free shipping.
Installing them is a breeze in a 4Runner as you only have three spark plug wires to begin with and some brain surgeon at Toyota actually put a little thought and consideration in the engine design (at least for this part) when they put the spark plug access in the configuration that they did.
Expect about 20-25 minutes to change all six plugs.
TOOLS:
- 10MM deep socket
- 6″ – 8″ – 3/8″ Extension
- 3/8″ Ratchet
- Spark plug socket
- Anti-seize
80% of a 4runner can be worked on with a 10MM socket and a Phillips head #2 screwdriver. I find that not only handy for a small amount of tools to accomplish a majority of repairs on the 4Runner, but thoughtful on the part of the makers.
Short. Simple. To the point. Have a good one.
